Curriculum Policy & Overview

We follow the National Curriculum and use a topic-based approach to learning. Children are immersed in a topic for a term and all of their writing is linked to the topic. Other curriculum areas are linked where possible but we still teach discrete subjects and some learning may be stand-alone.
Due to the fact we have mixed year groups in school, topics are on a two-year cycle - meaning that pupils will not repeat learning from a previous year. We focus on progression in key skills (e.g. what does a historian look like?) to ensure pupils know more and remember more. Key concept are identified to enable the children to make links with previous learning.
We involve pupils in their learning through regular 'Pupil Voice' sessions and invite parents in to regular showcase events (COVID rules allowing). Information about learning is also shared via topic overviews and our weekly newsletter. If you would like to know more, please contact your child's teacher.
