The Primary Years are divided into 3 stages:
Foundation Stage includes Nursery (Foundation Stage 1) and Reception children (Foundation Stage 2). Many of our pupils attend our nursery then move into Ash Class when it is time to join school. Other children that attend the nursery move to other local schools to enter Reception. We think it is important that children move smoothly from nursery to school and we work closely with parents to make this happen. We are always looking for ways to make learning meaningful and exciting for pupils and we are sure you would enjoy visiting our foundation stage.
Key Stage 1 includes years 1 and 2. Year 1 pupils are split between Ash & Willow classes. Year 2 pupils are always in Willow. We believe it is important that children in these years learn through exploring and questioning the world around them. We want them to become independent and motivated learners ready for their move into Key Stage 2. Children in KS1 do lots of exciting things with literacy, numeracy, ICT and the foundation subjects. We learn best when things are fun and relevant to our lives so we do our learning through cross-curricular activities and topics. You'll find us very busy in KS1!
Key Stage 2 includes years 3, 4, 5 and 6. We only have three classes in KS2, so years 4 and 5 are split up. Just like in KS1, we do our learning through cross-curricular topics. Pupils in KS2 are growing up fast and like to take on responsibility in the school. Children can train to be Peer Mediators, Playground Helpers, Secretarial Assistants, Road Safety Officers, School Councillors and much, much more! The children in KS2 are very friendly and would love to tell you all about the things they do at Wharncliffe Side!
At year 7, the children will go to secondary school. The majority of our children go on to Bradfield Secondary School...
