SEND at Wharncliffe Side
At Wharncliffe Side Primary School, we welcome everyone into our community. The staff, Governors, pupils and parents work together to make our school a happy and inclusive place to learn.
Our SEND provision allows pupils who face difficulties to access a broad and balanced curriculum including the opportunity to take part fully in a mainstream school life. We want pupils to develop self-confidence through their learning and social experiences and give them the opportunities to succeed in both. We aim for all pupils to be as independent and ambitious for themselves as possible. We create a caring, supportive and fully inclusive environment to enable them to do this. Wharncliffe Side has a graduated approach. This starts with quality first teaching (using observations, monitoring and quality CPD). 'Wave 2' introduces other strategies to support the child (e.g. small group teaching or a named intervention programme). If children are still not making progress, we use a 'Wave 3' approach. This involves outside support and includes regular meetings with parents.

Identification, assessment and provision for children with special educational needs is a matter for the whole school. This cycle is referred to as ‘Assess, Plan, Do, Review’ in the CoP (2015). The governing body, the Headteacher, the SEND-Co and all members of staff have important day-to-day responsibilities
